The wife of lead singer Perry Farrell stated on Saturday that a violent altercation occurred between members of the groundbreaking alternative rock band Jane’s Addiction during their reunion tour. The altercation took place amid “tension and animosity.”
As alternative rock and grunge music movements gained popularity in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the band became famous for their punk-inspired hits “Been Caught Stealing” and “Mountain Song.” The band released these songs during this period.
Videos from the Boston event on Friday night show the 65-year-old Farrell singing loudly into his microphone. After that, he lunges toward guitarist Dave Navarro, banging him with his shoulder, and then takes a swing at Navarro with his right arm. To prevent Farrell from being dragged away by other people on stage, Navarro is seen stretching out his right arm to maintain his distance from Farrell. Soon after that, the show came to an end.
“Perry’s frustration had been mounting; night after night, he felt that the stage volume had been extremely loud and his voice was being drowned out by the band,” Etty Lau Farrell wrote in a post on Instagram on Saturday morning.
In her statement, she mentioned that her husband had been experiencing tinnitus and a sore throat and that by the time the song was over, he was not singing but rather screaming to be heard. It was later that she reported that her spouse had a breakdown and “cried and cried.”
The band’s “Imminent Redemption” tour began in August and currently has 15 events remaining, one of which is a gig in Connecticut on Sunday night.
The band has not yet announced whether the tour will continue.
